MATTING POLICY

It is the goal of The Soggy Dog Spa to make your pet’s grooming experience as stress-free as
possible.

Where feasible, The Soggy Dog Spa attempts to de-mat/brush out the dog’s coat, but only
when it would not cause pain and suffering to attempt to do so (in accordance with the Animal
Welfare Act 2006 - Animals are to be protected from pain, injury and suffering).

Matted hair can cause a variety of skin & health problems, which may only become apparent once
matting has been removed. Issues such as infections, hot spots, parasites, inflamed skin or even
rotting fur and skin may be underneath matted hair.

Due to matting, your dog’s hair may need to be shaved extremely short to the skin and may show
signs of skin irritations and sores due to matting, wet undercoat and dirty coat.

If matting is severe, then more than one grooming session may be required.
Your dog may be nicked and cut because the groomer has to work so closely to the skin to remove
the matted coat. The Soggy Dog Spa is very careful, but the possibility of injury exists.

Additionally, haematomas (blood filled blisters) can occur due to matting. Once this matting is
released, it can cause blood to rush to the previously matted areas, making the skin more likely to
tear or bleed. Your dog may excessively shake their head due to the sensation of having the matting
released, this can also cause haematomas. In the event of a haematoma occurring, veterinary
treatment will need to be sought.

The Soggy Dog Spa will be happy to show you how to care for your pet’s coat so that matting does
not reoccur.

The owner releases The Soggy Dog Spa from any liability associated with the above-mentioned
process and any and all medical problems or injuries that may be uncovered and/or occur during
the clipping and de-matting process. Should any dog need veterinarian care after or during the
process, the owner agrees to pay any and all veterinarian fees.

The owner agrees to pay De-Matting fees (on top of the groom price) as follows:
• Brushing out and spot clipping of matted areas: from £5.00
• Full-body clip off (short blade): From £10.00
