FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do cats need grooming?

Yes – especially long-haired or older cats. While cats do lick themselves, they can struggle to remove loose fur, prevent matting, or clean hard-to-reach areas. Professional grooming helps reduce shedding, prevent painful knots, and keep your cat’s skin healthy.

What does a professional cat groom include?

At The Soggy Dog Spa, our cat grooms can include:

  • Deshedding and brushing

  • Claw trimming

  • Bath and blow dry (if the cat tolerates it)

  • Sanitary trim and belly shave (if needed)

  • Eye and ear cleaning

We tailor every groom to your cat’s temperament and coat condition.

How often should a cat be groomed professionally?

Every 6–12 weeks is ideal for most cats, depending on coat type. Long-haired breeds like Maine Coons or Ragdolls benefit from regular grooming to avoid mats and hairballs. Short-haired cats may need less frequent sessions but still benefit from nail trims and deshedding.

Can I get my matted cat groomed?

Yes – but the sooner, the better. Mats can be painful and pull on your cat’s skin. If your cat is severely matted, we may need to clip the coat for comfort and safety. We’ll always prioritise your cat’s wellbeing.

DO YOU GROOM DOGS IN SEASON?

Dogs in season are often uncomfortable and don't tolerate the grooming process. Please rearrange your dog's appointment if they come into season.

DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER DOGS IN THE SALON?

Your dog has exclusive use of the salon during their appointment. A quiet and calm environment often helps nervous dogs to relax. The only time more than one dog is in the salon, is when they're from the same family.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Prices are based on breed, behaviour, coat condition, size and temperament. The Soggy Dog Spa can give an estimate for grooming, however the price will be confirmed after a consultation on the first appointment.

CAN I COME TO SEE THE SALON?

Of course! The Soggy Dog Spa offer a complimentary 'Meet and Treat' where the owner and dog can visit the salon. This is a no-obligation service where you're able to see the salon, meet the groomer and discuss your grooming requirements. This service is great for nervous dogs.

It’s important to have your puppy groomed as soon as possible so they can get used to and learn to love the grooming experience.  It is recommended to book your puppy in for a puppy visit as soon as they're able to go for walks.
During their first visit your puppy will be introduced to the sights, sounds and smells of the grooming salon ensuring that future visits are stress free.

CAN YOU DE-MATT MY DOG?

Under the Animal Welfare Act it is illegal to cause pain and suffering to an animal. Therefore, any de-matting will only be carried out in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act. This means that very matted coats will need to be removed, by shaving on a short blade. You will be advised if this needs to be done, this service is subject to an additional fee starting from £10.
